SUBJECT: PTA Newsletter 09/20/2026 - Public Version

Weekly Newsletter - September 20, 2026
President's Message

Dear LME Families,

The PTA is about way more than just fundraising! While supporting our school financially is a big help, our true driving force comes straight from the Texas PTA mission: "to make every child's potential a reality by engaging and empowering families and communities to advocate for all children." As we plan for the year ahead, we are keeping this core mission at the heart of everything we do.

Building Community Together A major part of engaging our families is offering free events where we can connect, build community, and get to know one another. Thank you so much to everyone who made it out to our Connections Playdates this past weekend! My kiddo had an absolute blast, and I’m already looking forward to doing it again in January.

We are also thrilled to participate in the Westwood Homecoming events this week! This is a brand-new experience for Laurel Mountain Elementary, and we are hoping it becomes a cherished annual tradition for our school.

Looking ahead, mark your calendars for Fitnic (Oct. 2) and Walk, Bike & Roll to School (Oct. 7). These events give us a fantastic chance to have fun together, but they rely entirely on wonderful volunteers to happen. Please take a moment to check out the sign-up links below if you can lend a hand!

Putting Dollars to Work When it comes to the financial side, we treat every dollar raised as an opportunity to ask: How can we best show up for our students, teachers, and community?

Thanks to the incredible success of last year's Fun Run, we were able to allocate an extra $1,000 per grade level to help fund field trips, giving our teachers the freedom to plan unique, unforgettable learning experiences.

We are also proud to support our teachers through Grade Level Plans of Work. Each grade receives a dedicated budget to submit creative proposals—funding everything from chick-hatching projects and planetarium shows to specialized handwriting books that bring the curriculum to life. We will be reviewing and approving these plans at our first General Meeting on October 7th, and we would love to see you there!

Thank you for being such an supportive, active part of our LME family.

Warmly,

Julia Wood

Flyer for Bike Walk Roll To School Day on Wednesday, October 7th at 7 AM, starting at Barrington Park and organized by Laurel Mountain Elementary PTA.
Help keep our momentum rolling!

The Bike Train is a great way for students, families, and staff to start the school day together—getting some fresh air, connecting with friends, and building a stronger school community along the way!

We’re needing a few more volunteers to help direct traffic along the route, a support crew to help get tired riders (and their bikes) to the school, assisting the bikers with organizing bikes at school, and keep everyone rolling safely. No special cycling skills required—just a willingness to pedal, smile, and help our school community get moving!
