Weekly Newsletter - October 11, 2026
President's Message

Dear LME Families,

Thank you to everyone who joined us for our first general meeting! Because the first meeting sets our foundation for the year, we spend time reviewing the budget, making necessary amendments, and sharing our key priorities. If you weren't able to make it, you can catch up on the details here: [Link to Meeting Presentation]

Reflecting on these past nine weeks, it's hard to believe we are already halfway through the semester—time is flying! I am incredibly proud of everything our community has accomplished so far.

Looking ahead, we are thrilled to host our first virtual parent education session on Tuesday evening, which will focus on district finance. You can find more details below.

We hope you are all enjoying the long weekend, and we look forward to seeing everyone back at school on Tuesday!

Warmly,

Julia Wood

  • Movie Night (Friday)

    • Details: We need a few volunteers to assist with setup, making popcorn, and cleanup.

  • Spirit Night (Sunday)

    • Details: We need a few parents to staff our check-in table and collect receipts (we get 20% back on all submitted receipts!). Shifts are just 1 hour long.

If you're able to help out, please sign up using our form: October Volunteers Sign-Up Sheet

Early Voting Begins October 19th

A reminder that early voting begins Monday, October 19th and will end on Friday, October 30th.

Major statewide races get plenty of news coverage, but down-ballot offices—from local courts to school boards—truly shape our immediate region! If you're looking for unbiased information on what’s on your ballot and where each candidate stands, the League of Women Voters has you covered.

RRISD VATRE = PROP A

As a PTA, we voted to support RRISD Prop A. Prop A is a Voter-Approved Tax Rate Election (VATRE). This is a local school funding election that asks voters to approve the district’s request to increase the maintenance and operations tax rate. Unlike a school bond election, a VATRE doesn’t create new debt. Instead, it fuels the district’s daily operations, and importantly this year it supports our educators through pay increases. More information can be found on the District VATRE Site.

Our Ultimate Goal: One Voice for Every Student

After surpassing last year’s membership total, we’re working toward an even more meaningful goal: PTA membership equal to LME’s student enrollment—one PTA voice for every student.

Our membership represents the number of people willing to stand behind our students and school. The more voices included—parents, teachers, staff, students, grandparents, and community supporters—the stronger our PTA’s voice becomes.

That voice reaches beyond LME. With the next Texas legislative session beginning in January, every membership adds to the statewide voice advocating for public education and the needs of Texas children.

You don’t have to volunteer or attend meetings to add your voice. Membership itself matters.

Join the LME PTA today:https://www.lmepta.org/membership

For specific membership questions, please contact our Membership Chair, Taylor Romero at membership@lmepta.org.

This September, Laurel Mountain Elementary reached over 100% of our 2025–2026 total membership, earning our PTA the Early Bird Achievement Award!

American Irrigation Repair

Thank you for allowing our family to sponsor Laurel Mountain PTA this year! A big thank-you to everyone in the PTA for the time and energy you volunteer for the kiddos, and we’re grateful to be part of the 2026–2027 school year with y’all. Next year we will be celebrating our 30th year serving our local community and are grateful for all the support through the years. Repairs, maintenance, tune-ups, new installs, system modifications, equipment upgrades — if it’s irrigation, we handle it. — Justin & Ashly Wilson & the American Irrigation Repair Team

Art+ Academy

Every child can learn to draw. And imagine what that confidence can unlock. At ART+ Academy, students build strong drawing and painting skills with guidance from professional artists who are experienced teachers. Our small classes give young artists the individual attention they need to improve, explore different media, and feel proud of what they can accomplish. Because when children see themselves improving, they begin to see what else is possible.
